From Sonairte
Christmas shopping 2009
The Sonairte shop has some nice garden gifts at the moment - decorative pots to grow those window sill herbs and handy tools for the small garden come immediately to mind, but you can also buy gift vouchers for Sonairte Courses, gardening books, and vouchers to buy seeds and compost in the spring.
What else does the gardener want this year?
With everyone starting up their own vegetable gardens look around for really good quality garden tools. These are some of my personal favourites:
Spade - a light but strong border spade by Bulldog which will last a lifetime properly maintained. A border for from the same company would be good as well
Pruning tools - secateurs, loppers and pruning saw from Felco, the choice of all the professionals. Pruning knife from Victorinox
Hoe - the Swoe from Wilkinsons
Rake - make sure it is light and springy, but cheap is fine
Watering can - Haws make the best balanced and most durable cans. They cost a lot but you'll still be using the same one in fifty years - or your granchildren will be using it in a hundred
Check out our list of the best gardening books around this year - they are all good reads as well as good information sources.
And really nice notebooks so your friends and family can keep track of their garden activities are always welcome. There are some beautiful ones, made from recycled paper, in the Sonairte EcoShop
